Watch News Briefing: Moon Phases, Military Watches, Retro-Futurism, and Italian Elegance

The latest releases showcase four very different approaches to telling the story of watchmaking. Arnold & Son puts the astronomical moon phase front and center, Bremont reinterprets its connection to the British Armed Forces, AMIDA brings a design concept from the 1970s into the present, and Angelus combines a classic chronograph with Italian color and retail culture.

Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Steel “Colors of the Moon”

Arnold & Son is expanding its Perpetual Moon line with three limited-edition stainless steel models under the title “Colors of the Moon.” The centerpiece is a large moon phase display inspired by the blue, gold, and red moons.

A notable feature is the use of mother-of-pearl. Arnold & Son uses PVD-coated mother-of-pearl for the dial and the moon phase sky, creating iridescent reflections in black, blue, or green. The moon disc itself is also made of mother-of-pearl; it is colored and coated with Super-LumiNova. The constellations Cassiopeia and the Big Dipper are also applied by hand and glow in the dark.

AMIDA continues its Digitrend line with the new OSII Black. The watch builds on the futuristic Digitrend design from 1976 and reinterprets its space-age aesthetic in a technically updated form. The new version is limited to 150 pieces.

A distinctive feature remains the side-mounted time display, which uses a reflective system. A new addition is a fully luminescent display made possible by a sapphire crystal. This replaces the traditional upper metal case, allows light into the movement, and makes the displays readable even in the dark. Inside, a proprietary jumping-hour module based on the Soprod Newton P024 powers the watch.

Angelus Chronograph Telemeter Blue Ministerial

With the Cronografo Telemetro Blu Ministeriale, Angelus presents a limited-edition special model developed specifically for the Italian market. The watch was created in collaboration with four select Italian retailers: Verga 1947 in Milan, Montres & Bijoux in Genoa, Camparini Gioielli in Reggio Emilia, and P. Bastiani in Trieste.

Angelus: Blue Ministeriale Chronograph

The focus is on the “Blu Ministeriale” shade. It references the blue of Italian government institutions and is intended to convey a sense of understated, formal elegance. As such, the watch is not merely a color variation of the Angelus Chronographe Télémètre, but a standalone project that combines Swiss watchmaking with Italian culture and the tradition of watchmaking.

Angelus: Blue Ministeriale Chronograph in Stainless Steel and Yellow Gold

The chronograph is based on the technical design of the Chronographe Télémètre, which won the Chronograph Prize at the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Some models also feature the signature of one of the four partners on the dial—a nod to the tradition of prominent retailer signatures in the 20th century.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Case in 18-karat yellow gold or stainless steel
  • Diameter: 37 millimeters
  • Caliber A5000, mechanical with manual winding and a 42-hour power reserve
