Mühle-Glashütte presents the "Sportivo Power Chronograph", its second modular movement

Last year, the Glashütte manufactory launched the “Sportivo” line, which has now been expanded to include a chronograph model.

The new "Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition," limited to 200 pieces, boasts the second modular movement developed by Mühle-Glashütte. It bears the designation MU9424-GR—the "GR" suffix referring to the newly developed Mühle module, which expands the existing MU9413 chronograph movement.

"GR" stands for the power reserve indicator. This is enabled by a complex mechanism located in a module plate on the dial side of the movement.

In addition to adding the module, Mühle-Glashütte made further modifications to the movement to ensure the 62-hour power reserve can be clearly displayed. This required a modified mainspring barrel, with which the power reserve module is directly connected. For example, the base plate had to be provided with additional holes and milling on the in-house CNC machining centers.

This resulted, step by step, in a 29-jewel Mühle movement with a particularly shock-resistant woodpecker neck regulation, a Glashütte three-quarter plate including a removable escape wheel bridge, a Glashütte ratchet and, last but not least, the efficient Mühle rotor.

After the components have been completed with Glashütte grinding and polishing techniques, the movement is assembled by hand and carefully regulated in six positions. The watchmakers at Mühle-Glashütte adjust it so that its rate is between 0 and +8 seconds per day. This in-house regulation is based on the chronometer standard and is designed to prevent the watch from running slow. Because no wearer of a Mühle watch should be late because of their watch – that's the manufactory's motto.

The stainless steel case is extremely robust and features a striking black IP coating (ion plating), in which titanium or a titanium alloy is applied to the case using an ion beam.

Added to this is a 2.2-millimeter double-coated anti-reflective sapphire crystal and an equally scratch-resistant ceramic inlay for the bidirectional rotating bezel. The 42.5-millimeter case is also suitable for outdoor use thanks to its screw-down crown with side protection and water resistance of up to 30 bar.

The new "Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition" is secured to the wrist by a waterproof leather strap with an alligator grain and red contrast stitching. This strap is also coated with a rubber layer.

“The time should be recognizable on our watches at first glance,” is the principle that guides the watch developers around Thilo Mühle.

The black dial features white hour markers generously coated with luminous material. They contrast strikingly with the lightly textured background, as do the striking, also luminous, dauphine hands.

The power reserve indicator and the chronograph function are subordinate to this fundamental function of the timekeeping instruments from the Glashütte manufactory. The power reserve indicator is located in a semicircular totalizer at 6 o'clock and labeled "Up" and "Down." The power reserve indicator is traditionally called the "Up/Down" indicator in Glashütte. "Up" indicates a fully wound barrel, while "Down" indicates a fully wound movement.

The chronograph function is designed for time measurements of up to 30 minutes. Its 30-minute counter is positioned opposite the power reserve at 12 o'clock. Its color also matches the red chronograph center hand and the red-backed minute and second scales on the outer edge of the dial.

Three fine indices divide each second interval into four smaller units. This allows stop times to be read to within one-eighth of a second. If the chrono center hand is positioned directly on an intermediate index, this represents two, four, or six-eighths of a second; if it is stopped in between, it represents three-eighths of a second, for example.

The powerful black and red color scheme and the English term for power reserve ultimately led to the Sportivo “Power” chronograph being named after it.

The RRP is €4,300.
