Column: Rolex Rumours - the countdown is on!
Watches & Wonders 2025 has not yet begun, but speculation about this year's Rolex innovations has long been rife.
It has almost become something of a tradition to use mind games to make the most accurate predictions possible about what the brand with the crown will present to the watch community on the first morning of the trade fair.
Some time ago, a supposed leak led many crystal ball readers to speculate on a "Land Dweller" - the land version of the "Sea-Dweller" or "Sky-Dweller" - with an integrated Jubilee bracelet and honeycomb pattern dial.
Now Rolex itself has released two teaser videos, which have fuelled the mystery once again.
The "Land-Dweller" story is not off the table, especially as Rolex had the name protected two years ago. However, this may only have been to prevent other brands from using it. There are also several posts on Instagram showing brand ambassador Roger Federer with a "Land-Dweller" on his wrist. The former tennis pro can also be seen briefly in the Rolex video.
Back to the official video. The Syloxi lettering - Rolex's name for its silicon hairsprings - can be seen here, a possible reference to a technical innovation. Resourceful watch nerds also claim to have tracked down the current patent specification for a new Rolex escapement. The official moving image announcement also shows yellow gold, steel, a red dial, a small bezel cut-out in green and a glass back.
What is certain is that there will be a new bracelet. It is not clear from the Rolex videos whether it is integrated or not, but it is clear that it is equipped with a kind of "secret clasp". Rolex is also said to have filed a patent application for an integrated bracelet with a quick-change system.
By this time tomorrow, Rolex fans will be the wiser. Until then, you can still puzzle and speculate without restraint. Have fun!
