These are the new Cartier creations at Watches & Wonders
Cartier is presenting elegant new products in Geneva during Watches & Wonders. Of course, favourite pieces such as the iconic Cartier "Tank" or the "Panthère" jewellery watches are not to be missed.

Cartier Tank - The classic gets even bigger
Over the course of its history, the "Tank" has constantly changed. Soon after its launch in 1917, the Maison introduced new interpretations that played with different shapes, sizes, materials and dials. These included the "Tank Cintrée", the "Tank Chinoise", the "Tank Asymétrique", the "Tank Américaine" and the "Tank Française" as well as the latest addition, the "Tank Must" with the SolarBeat™ photovoltaic movement. The "Tank Louis Cartier" from 1922, which is closely modelled on the original Tank - the "Tank Normale" - but has significantly changed the shape of the original version, is particularly special. The "Tank Louis Cartier" had a longer case, narrower side bars and softer edges. The new 1899 MC movement now allows a larger size for the icon. The new Tank Louis Cartier is available in rose gold and yellow gold.
Pilot watches Santos and Santos Dumont
The Santos de Cartier watches have been part of the Maison's repertoire since 1904. But it defies time with its innovative design and performance. It was the first modern watch specifically designed to be worn on the wrist. Louis Cartier designed it for a friend, the aviator Santos Dumont, so that he could tell the time during a flight. The design, with its square shape and eight visible screws, has since become a symbol of Cartier's watchmaking expertise.
With their smaller size, this year's new models are designed to appeal to a wider audience. They are available in gold, gold in combination with steel and in steel.
The new watch models from Santos Dumont continue to tell the story of aviation and are particularly reminiscent of Alberto Santos Dumont's Demoiselle aeroplanes, which took off from the ground for the first time in 1907. The new Cartier watches are reminiscent of the historic aeroplanes through the materials used and feature an extra-large case and manual winding. The yellow gold model with its wood-style dial is reminiscent of the frame of an aeroplane, the pink gold version with its linen-style dial is reminiscent of the wings and the platinum version with its copper-style dial pays homage to the mechanics of the aircraft.
Panthère Zebrée: an abstract masterpiece made of lacquer and diamonds
The iconic "Panthère" watch is a true masterpiece of jewellery and has been reinterpreted many times. The different variations of a panther's fur have inspired Cartier to give the watch an abstract look somewhere between zebra and tiger. The highly graphic composition includes black and gold-brown lacquer, a pavé of diamonds and orange and yellow spessartite.
This interpretation of the Panthère watch requires precise craftsmanship, especially when it comes to the lacquer, which has to be applied by hand at high temperatures. The setting of the dial with its 145 diamonds is also carried out by the Maison's most talented artists.
The Panthère jewellery watch
It is in Cartier's stylistic history to bridge the gap between a timepiece and a piece of jewellery with its creations. The three-dimensional panther getting ready to pounce is one part of this creation - the other part is a "Toi & Moi" bangle. The elegant feline predator getting ready to pounce is juxtaposed with a filigree watch - the two together create the Cartier icon we know as the Panthère.
The design in polished yellow gold clearly shows the muscles of the feline predator, while small patches of black lacquer and green eyes made of tsavorite breathe even more life into the panther. The white gold version, which is set all over with diamonds, is full of brilliance.
