Five in one go, from washing machines to clocks - Studio F. A. Porsche wins the iF Design Award

“These awards are the result of close collaboration between our talented and visionary team and our innovative, industry-leading clients,” says Carsten Monnerjan, Managing Director of Studio FA Porsche.

"We believe that outstanding design emerges from partnerships that challenge the status quo and push boundaries. These awards validate our mission to create products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also deliver tangible value in everyday life through innovation and functionality."

As a design studio that works both on its own projects and in collaboration with leading global brands, Studio FS Porsche has demonstrated the highest level of design expertise, regardless of the object, since its founding in 1972.

The watch, however, holds a special significance. Indeed, such a watch was the first project of founder Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The black "Chronograph 1" has since become an icon and remains the foundation of Porsche watch design to this day.

The relevance of this product category is also demonstrated by the fact that Porsche is probably the only automobile company in the world with its own watch manufacturing facility.

Incidentally, Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's so-called "Ten Design Commandments" remain in place to this day. And they are what enable Studio FA Porsche to create successful designs for so many different product areas.

These commandments in no way restrict creativity, as Roland Heiler, then Managing Director and Chief Designer of the Porsche Design Group, explained in an interview in 2022: "The important thing is that Ferdinand Alexander Porsche never defined a formal language. There is no single way Porsche Design products should look. The entire design process is based on an attitude."

And Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche once explained it like this: “If you consider the function of something, the form sometimes emerges on its own.” Following this premise, in the 1960s he created one of the most important design objects in contemporary history: the Porsche 911.

Many awards have followed to this day. Now, five products have been honored with the prestigious iF Design Award. A double reason to celebrate: Studio FA Porsche can now proudly call 100 iF Design Awards its own.

Stefan Büscher, CEO of the Porsche Lifestyle Group, commented: "Reaching the milestone of winning the 100th iF Award is an incredible achievement. It underscores the impact of Porsche design principles and the ability of Studio FA Porsche to extend Porsche's unique heritage and excellence in design and technology to areas beyond the automobile."

Many watches have contributed significantly to this success. And this year, another timepiece from the brand received an award.

Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition

The timepiece combines the design of the first "Chronograph 1" with modern technology and materials. The case is made of solid titanium carbide. The abbreviation "TiC" for titanium carbide on the dial indicates this. This material, developed and patented by Porsche, is not only lighter than the stainless steel used in the 1970s timepiece, but even lighter than conventional titanium. It is also hypoallergenic, highly scratch-resistant, and not subject to any visible aging process.

The dial of the historical model, the military version for the U.S. Air Force flight squadron, featured a tiger's head as its heraldic symbol. The new edition still features a heraldic symbol between 4 and 5 o'clock, but it's now a screaming marmot, colloquially known as a "mankei."

This Mankei icon, part of the collaboration between Porsche Design and FAT International, refers to the Mankei mountain hut on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, near Studio FA Porsche in Zell am See. It is operated by Ferdi Porsche, great-grandson and namesake of Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche, the founder of the legendary German brand.

To ensure comfortable readability of the displays even in poor lighting conditions, Porsche Design has replaced the original hydrogen isotope tritium with blue Superluminova. Additionally, two marker dots at 12 o'clock provide orientation in the dark.

The Porsche Design WERK 01.240 automatic movement with COSC certification, flyback, and chronograph functions provides power and precision. This edition comes with a slate gray strap made of Porsche vehicle leather.
