In memoriam: Hans Dieter Krieger has passed away
Hans Dieter Krieger, owner of the jewelry manufacturer Hans D. Krieger Fine Jewellery, passed away on the night of May 13, 2025. He was 86 years old.
Frank Frühauf, Mayor of the city of Idar-Oberstein, commemorates this very special Idar-Obersteiner with these words:
"Hans Dieter Krieger was a man who touched the lives of many through his work, his character, and his heart, and above all – a man who was there when he was needed. He was an extraordinarily successful entrepreneur, a passionate footballer and singer, a club-loving man and committed supporter of sport, who also helped shape and influence the public life of our city for many decades. (...) His work in his hometown will remain unforgettable even after his death, and we have lost a great personality of the city of Idar-Oberstein," said Frank Frühauf, Mayor of Idar-Oberstein.
Hans Dieter Krieger took over his father's diamond cutting business in 1964 and transformed it into a leading jewelry manufacturer. Under his leadership, the cutting company became a world-renowned brand for exclusive jewelry with unique gemstone compositions and distinctive designs.
In 2007, the city of Idar-Oberstein honored him for his commitment with the Golden Badge of Honor, and in 2014, Hans Dieter Krieger was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. Eveline Lemke, the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economic Affairs, emphasized at the award ceremony that he had done much for his hometown as an entrepreneur, combining economic success with social responsibility in an exemplary manner.
