Doxa unveils the special edition "SUB 750T Clive Cussler

With this edition, the Swiss brand opens the third chapter of its homage to the American writer, who contributed significantly to making the “SUB” diving watches known worldwide.

Clive Cussler's works have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. This has also introduced his readers to Doxa diving watches. For the author, who has published more than 85 books, the orange dial of the "SUB" was a perfect fit for the wrist of Dirk Pitt, the hero of his novels.

Clive Cussler himself was also not averse to adventure: with the non-profit organization NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency), which he founded in 1979, he was passionate about wreck hunting.

The author and explorer, who combined historical puzzles with epic adventures in his novels and always wore a Doxa “SUB” on his wrist, still inspires the brand today.

And so the brand is honoring Clive Cussler for the third time. This time, the inspiration was the film Sahara, the adaptation of a Cussler novel of the same name, which was released 20 years ago.

The "SUB 750T" is the third special edition in the Doxa series honoring Clive Cussler, featuring Sellita's SW300 automatic movement with a 56-hour power reserve. At 11.95 millimeters thick, it is two millimeters thinner than the first "SUB 750T." Lighter and more comfortable to wear, it remains true to the original design codes: a 45-millimeter stainless steel case (waterproof to 75 bar), an orange dial (a Doxa trademark since the 1960s), the NUMA logo at 7:30, and a date window at 3 o'clock with red 7, 15, and 31 days.

As always, all diving-specific information elements (indices, hands, bezel markers) are coated with Superluminova, ensuring comfortable readability even in poor lighting conditions.

94 copies for Clive Cussler's 94th birthday

Clive Cussler would have turned 94 this year, so Doxa has limited the “SUB 750T” to 94 units.

The screw-down caseback also features an engraved compass rose. This design element appears repeatedly in Clive Cussler's literary and personal life. For him, this "star of the sea" was not only a navigational instrument, but also a symbol of the constant call of the oceans, adventure, and exploration.

Each direction represents an aspect of his work:

  • North: constancy and the search for truth
  • South: the unknown and the attraction of the exotic
  • East: the beginnings and the discoveries
  • West: the completion of the quest and the revelation of the secrets

Dirk Cussler, son of Clive Cussler and writer, comments:

"The relationship between Doxa and my father was always more than just a partnership. It was the adventure of a man and a family, which continues today through his memory and the organization he founded, NUMA. Bold. Creative. Adventurous. This was my father's attitude to life. Whether tracking down historic wrecks or writing new adventure stories, his trademark was a unique, original approach. This attitude is precisely reflected in the Doxa model that bears his name. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Doxa for honoring my father's legacy with this timepiece, which represents his courage, originality, and passion for exploration."

"Clive Cussler's world-famous books provided a natural platform for Doxa watches, highlighting them as indispensable tools for the novel's heroes. The famous 'SUB' diver's watch with its orange dial continues to inspire us today. In celebration of Clive Cussler's 94th birthday, we honor a man whose stories have captivated generations of readers and whose vision continues to inspire our company. We thank his family for their trust and the friendship that has bound us together for decades."
