Mondaine presents a pocket watch for the Swiss National Day

On August 1, the founding of the Swiss Confederation is celebrated. More specifically, the Federal Charter of 1291, which is considered the founding document of the Confederation, is honored.

In keeping with this, Mondaine is launching a special edition pocket watch as a collector's item for all watch lovers who celebrate nostalgia and appreciate classic design.

The new pocket watch features a 48-millimeter brushed stainless steel case and a spring-loaded lid that protects the dial while emphasizing the watch's traditional charm. A Swiss quartz movement ensures reliable precision.

The matching snap hook and stainless steel chain allow the watch to be securely attached to vests, bags or belts.

The official launch on the Swiss National Day is no coincidence, but a celebratory homage to underline the watch's deep roots in Swiss identity and craftsmanship.

The special edition pocket watch is limited to 200 pieces worldwide and features the Mondaine and Swiss Federal Railways SBB logos as well as the individual limited edition number on the case back.

The origins of the design

The first pocket watches date back to around 1600 and marked the beginning of watchmaking. These models evolved from miniature versions of church or tower clocks, were rare, and reserved for the elite.

Over time, they became increasingly sophisticated and complicated, and by the 18th century, they had become affordable for many people. The pocket watch remained the most common type of watch until after the First World War, when wristwatches began to gain increasing popularity.

The classic design that inspired Mondaine's Special Edition dates back to 1944, when Swiss engineer Hans Hilfiker designed the Official Watch of the Swiss Federal Railways. His design, with its minimalist white background, black geometric markers, and distinctive red second hand, became a symbol of precision worldwide.
