The "Profondo" from U-Boat - unmissably robust
Italo Fontana, Italian designer and founder of the watch brand U-Boat, creates watches that defy convention and aim to stand out. This also applies to the new "Profondo" diver's watch.
46 millimetres in diameter, 27 millimetres high and a dial with a steampunk look - this watch, limited to 100 pieces, is not suitable for understatement on the wrist or quiet luxury. Instead, it is reminiscent of sunken worlds and bygone times and encourages modern adventure.
Of course, it is not only visually equipped for this. With a titanium case that can withstand pressures of up to 1,000 bar and a 9.7 millimetre-thick sapphire crystal, the "Profondo" - Italian for deep - can also withstand extreme conditions.
The unidirectional rotating bezel - a must for every professional diver - is also made of titanium and can be operated comfortably even when wearing gloves thanks to the ribbing.
On the right-hand side of the case at 3 o'clock, an automatic helium valve also protects the watch from pressure fluctuations, while on the left-hand side, a screw-down crown with protective devices enables the time to be set safely.
The three-tiered metal dial has a deliberately aged finish created by a manual oxidation process. The result is different every time: each dial is characterised by unique textures and shades, making each "Profondo" a one-off - as if salvaged from a sunken wreck.
The tried-and-tested SW 200 automatic movement from Sellita precisely drives the hands, which, like the indices and numerals, are coated with beige-coloured Superluminova.
The "Profondo" is worn on a handcrafted bracelet made from Tuscan piping and fitted with a double titanium buckle. An additional titanium bracelet is included in the scope of delivery.
