Seiko x Datsun - the story continues
Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari & Co. - you can do it. But if you want to be recognised as a true motorsport expert, the 240Z from Datsun can also set the pace on the tarmac.
The Japanese car brand existed from 1931 to 1986 and was operated as the subsidiary Nissan. It was officially renamed Nissan in 1981. However, Datsun was revitalised in 2013.
One of Datsun's best-known models was the 240Z, a sports car that was very popular in the 1970s. Overall, Datsun can look back on a long history of innovative models that are still appreciated by enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the automotive scene today.
The Japanese cult brand is therefore the perfect motorised counterpart to the Japanese art of watchmaking from Seiko.
The result: three limited editions, including the "Mechanical Chronograph" as the new top model in the "Speedtimer" series. All three models will be available from September.
Seiko x Datsun
In 1969, Datsun presented its first sports car, the 240Z - the same year in which Seiko developed the "Speedtimer". The 240Z became a bestseller in the USA and won the legendary East African Safari Rally in 1971. At the time, Seiko supported the Datsun motorsport team - the Seiko logo was clearly visible on the winning model.
The "Datsun 240Z Limited Editions" are the result of this shared history - a tribute to two brands that have shaped technology and speed.
"Speedtimer Mechanical Chronograph Datsun Limited Edition SRQ057"

This "Mechanical Chronograph", limited to 500 pieces, is the flagship of the "Speedtimer" series. The typography is based on the displays in the Datsun cockpit and extends from the tachymeter scale to the totalisers. Every detail echoes the language of motorsport: from the dial to the engraving on the case back, which not only bears the serial number but also the limited edition of just 500 pieces.

Inside the stainless steel case, which is water-resistant to ten bar and has a screw-down back, is the automatic calibre 8R48 with manual winding and a 45-hour power reserve. (RRP €2,800)

"Speedtimer Automatic Datsun Limited Edition SPB517"

Limited to 2,500 pieces, the "SPB517" features a matt, anti-reflective dial with red accents on the second hand and inner ring. At 6 o'clock, the Datsun logo provides a clear focal point, while the Arabic numerals are reminiscent of the original dashboard of the 240Z. The crown at 4 o'clock activates the countdown function.

The 39.5-millimetre stainless steel case with screw-down back is water-resistant to 20 bar and houses the automatic calibre 6R55 with manual winding option and 72-hour power reserve. (RRP €1,250)

"Speedtimer Solar Chronograph Datsun Limited Edition SSC957"

The "SSC957" also carries the sporty energy of the 240Z, but draws it from the power of light by means of the V192 calibre. The power reserve is six months. The protective stainless steel case with aluminium bezel measures 41.4 millimetres and is water-resistant to ten bar.

The Datsun logo at 12 o'clock makes a clear visual statement and the engraving of the historic winning car on the case back is a reminder of the origin of this edition. The typography and tachymeter bezel also echo the design language of classic rally cars. (RRP 990 €)
