The best of two Swiss worlds - the chocolate watch

What does Switzerland stand for? Watches and chocolate, of course! Okay, let's leave out the cheese fondue, the mountains, and the neutrality for now. That's what chocolatier Amaury Guichon did.

The 34-year-old runs his own pastry academy and has around 50 million followers on social media. The Swiss artist conjures up just about anything from chocolate – including watches. Now he's done it again. And it's a giant wristwatch, a mechanical one, of course – complete with a watch crystal, indices, bezel, screws, gears, hands, a moving movement, and everything else that goes with a real watch.

Guichon didn't choose just any watch as a model for his crazy chocolate watch, but rather, fittingly, the "Freak" by Ulysse Nardin.

Perhaps he was inspired by the oversized version of this special timepiece on the Swiss manufacturer's stand at last year's Watches & Wonders (pictured left).

“I have long dreamed of making a wristwatch out of chocolate! And I couldn’t have wished for a better model than the ‘Freak’ by Ulysse Nardin,” he writes on his Instagram account.

On his YouTube channel he adds:

"A gigantic, completely edible chocolate clock. It's a tribute to my Swiss heritage, where watchmaking and chocolate are both national treasures. The high precision required to ensure every element fits perfectly together made this project one of the most technically challenging I've undertaken in a long time. The result? A stunningly realistic clock, crafted entirely from chocolate."
