Special exhibition at the German Clock Museum Glashütte is dedicated to the astronomical art clock

To mark the 100th anniversary of its Astronomical Art Clock, the German Watch Museum Glashütte opened a special exhibition dedicated to the art clock in September 2025. Entitled "Time Leap," visitors can immerse themselves in the era of the clock's creation.

Anyone entering the German Clock Museum in Glashütte, Saxony, will immediately see one of the collection's most important exhibits upon passing through the entrance portal and will inevitably be captivated. Hermann Goertz's Astronomical Art Clock impresses not only with its size but also with the multitude of displays that suggest a sophisticated mechanism behind the magnificent dial.

This year, the German Watch Museum Glashütte celebrates the 100th anniversary of its Astronomical Art Clock. It was completed in October 1925 by its builder, Hermann Goertz, after more than three decades of construction.

Using various themes, the technical and social conditions at the time the clock was created are brought to life and the challenges Hermann Goertz had to overcome while working on his masterpiece are shown.

The exhibition is accompanied by a dedicated app. Audio files on the individual themes allow visitors to immerse themselves even more deeply in the time of the clock's creation. Along with these, there are short puzzles to solve.

Other activities are also required: whether it is creating a technical drawing at the drawing board or trying out a 3D model of the perpetual calendar of the art clock.

The new special exhibition can be viewed during the Clock Museum's regular opening hours, Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
