The fascination of the northern lights

Every year since 2001, Tamara Comolli has presented a new world of colour made of gemstones, which follows the brand's own inspiration, but also picks up on moods and trends. This year, the new "Colour Story" bears the name "Aurora", evoking images of the impressive colour spectacle of the northern lights.

The celestial phenomena with all their colours and dynamic movements have always fascinated us and are still one of the most interesting and moving natural phenomena today.

Creative Director Kate De'Ath has now captured the endless fascination of this natural spectacle in cool shades of blue, green and violet, which are combined to create a vibrant and expressive colour palette and set in 18 carat rose gold. The gemstones that give the jewellery its special, iconic character are hand-picked and cut in Tamara Comolli's own cabochon cut. The colour world of the Northern Lights is represented by amethyst, London blue topaz, peridot and green tourmaline - for the first time, the iolite is also part of the jewellery. It was taken from Tamara Comolli's archive for the first time this year.

"Auroa" in the spirit of Nordic folklore

The iolite is also known as the "water sapphire". As part of the "Aurora" colour story, which symbolises the Northern Lights, this gemstone is also particularly fitting from a historical perspective. The Vikings used iolite to navigate the seas; it is known in Norse folklore as the "Viking compass stone". Thin discs of iolite were used to reduce glare so that the position of the sun could be determined when looking through the stone, even on cloudy days.

The expressive colours of 'Aurora' can be found in the iconic MIKADO flamenco bracelet as well as in a trio of "Tulip" rings set with tanzanite, green tourmaline and violet tourmaline. Each ring is accentuated by a fine line of diamond pavé. "Aurora" is also available as a "Flamenco" charm bracelet from the "Mikado" collection, as well as in three "Mikado" necklaces of different lengths and two versions of "Bouton" earrings.

Refreshingly new and modern, 'Aurora' reminds us that the hopeful promise of light is always within reach - and that beauty always finds its way through the darkness.
