Pinterest trends: The grunge look, but in the fine jewellery version

What are young people looking for on the internet? For inspiration for grunge looks, the rocking, rebellious style from the music scene that was particularly popular in the 90s. As a subculture, the rebellious, sometimes somewhat dark look is celebrating a comeback. On Pinterest, Gen Z is mainly looking for grunge-style make-up. This raises the question of what jewellery would actually go with it? Hence an interpretation according to the motto "Grunge - but make it Fine Jewellery".

Pinterest trend: grunge glamour

The inspiration for my column on grunge jewellery looks comes from the Pinterest trend analysis for this autumn. Pinterest users, including a large proportion of Gen Z, are once again on the lookout for trends and styles that have a certain nostalgia factor.

This autumn's focus includes grunge, a genre of rock music that could be translated as "dirty" in German. Grunge experienced its heyday in the 1990s; probably the most famous musical representative of this period is the band Nirvana. The fashion style associated with grunge was deliberately characterised by loose, sometimes tattered and worn-out looks that were intended to express the rebellious character of the scene. Torn jeans, second-hand clothing and flannel shirts are typical features of grunge. It's no wonder that many people have rediscovered this look for themselves: Vintage and second-hand are in and have been very popular for some time now. The driving factors are nostalgia and also the opportunity to save money by turning to second-hand - or so-called "pre-loved" - products.

Rock looks and outfits that capture the grunge vibe

On Pinterest, the newly found trend is called "grunge glamour". Searches for glamorous grunge make-up have skyrocketed this autumn. This is what the search queries look like in numbers:

  • Clean grunge make-up +652%
  • Natural grunge make-up +368%
  • 90s grunge make-up +210%
  • 2000s grunge make-up +197%
  • Soft grunge make-up look +147%
  • Dark grunge make-up +123%
  • Brown grunge make-up +93%
  • Messy grunge make-up +72%

And what better way to give the grunge look, including outfit and make-up, an even more glamorous touch? Jewellery, of course! That's why we have selected a range of fine jewellery and lifestyle jewellery pieces that are perfect for an elegant interpretation of the grunge glamour look.

Classic, dark, glamorous

Typically, pieces of jewellery that are popular with grunge fans are often made of silver with blackened accents that capture the slightly dark and "grungy" style of grunge. One of the predominant colours is black. Typical motifs include classic symbols such as stars, hearts and crosses, as well as skull motifs and other motifs associated with a rock style.

A touch of warmth, hippie, boho

Grunge doesn't just have a dark side, doesn't just express itself in black, but also has influences from styles that we could also describe as "hippie" - after all, also rebels of their time - or "boho". A later echo of the grunge look from the 90s are certainly the "hipsters", who have combined a rustic style - the iconic flannel shirt - with modern styles and influences. Tattoos for a cool, urban yet rock look are also a must.

If you like this style, you can also combine cool black jewellery with warm colours such as rose gold and yellow gold. The choice is huge.
