eBay expands its authenticity check for jewelry and watches in Germany.

Buyers can now optionally book eBay's authenticity check for selected clothing, shoes, and accessories for €10 per item. Jewelry priced at €500 or more is checked free of charge.

Already known for verifying the authenticity of pre-owned luxury watches, luxury handbags and sneakers, eBay is now extending its expertise to the entire fashion segment.

This is how eBay's free authenticity check for jewelry works.

All new and pre-owned jewelry items that meet the requirements for eBay's authentication process are carefully examined after purchase by eBay's certified authenticators, trained by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). With over 90 years of experience, the GIA brings unparalleled expertise to offer the highest possible level of security.

The selection includes jewelry made from various precious metals and featuring select gemstones, with a starting price of €500. There are no service fees.

The eBay authentication team uses state-of-the-art methods to analyze every detail – from the type of metal and its purity to the quality of the gemstones – and compares the information with the item description. After successful verification, the piece of jewelry is securely packaged and shipped directly to the buyer via fast, secure delivery – at no additional cost to either party.

Each item, after passing the inspection, also receives an individual authenticity card with a QR code, which provides access to all information regarding the item's authenticity. Security is also guaranteed in the case of returns: Before the item is returned to the seller, it is checked again by the eBay authenticity verification team.

Expansion of authenticity verification for luxury handbags and watches

From mid-November, buyers can optionally add eBay's authenticity check to their purchase of luxury handbags with a retail price between €100 and €499, as well as luxury watches from select brands with a retail price between €1,000 and €1,799. The service costs €10 per handbag and €99 per watch. This adds a flexible option to eBay's existing free authenticity checks for luxury handbags with a retail price of €500 or more and for luxury watches with a retail price of €1,800 or more.

When purchasing clothing, shoes and accessories from over 30 different brands, buyers can optionally book eBay's authenticity check for €10 per item for sales prices of €100 or more.

If the buyer chooses this option, the seller must send the item to eBay's authenticity verification center. There, each item is checked against brand-specific criteria – from workmanship and materials to labels and characteristic details.

If an item passes the inspection, it receives a authentication tag with a QR code and is shipped directly to the buyer via trackable delivery. In the event of a return, each product is re-inspected.
