Glashütte Original x Meissen presents limited edition trio
The watch manufacturer Glashütte Original and the porcelain manufactory Meissen are both synonymous with high-quality German craftsmanship in their respective fields. The collaboration between these two traditional companies has now resulted in the "Senator Meissen" edition.
This includes three limited-edition wristwatches with finely painted porcelain dials, in which the expertise of Glashütte Original and Meissen merge.
Both manufacturers look back on a long heritage. Glashütte Original will celebrate 180 years of Glashütte watchmaking in 2025, while Meissen can look back on 315 years of history.
With a steady hand and lots of patience
Each "Senator Meissen" is a work of art in miniature. A 40-millimeter diameter rose gold case, water-resistant to 5 bar, forms the frame for hand-painted dials whose hour and minute displays are reduced to a minimum.

This minimalist design shapes the aesthetics of the watches in two ways: Firstly, the low height of the movement allows for a very slim profile. Secondly, the two gently curved rose gold hands allow the decorative elements to take center stage.

The clock faces are made of wafer-thin porcelain tiles, which are first fired at 1,400 °C and then carefully inspected for quality and evenness. Afterwards, the decoration, lettering, and Roman numerals are applied by hand in several layers using thin brushes. Each layer is fired in a kiln at 900 °C to achieve the desired color depth.

Porcelain painting in miniature format
Three different dial designs are available for the new „Senator Meissen“. The first variant, limited to 150 pieces, presents the ornamental Meissen „Mystic Maison“ decor in delicate grey on a flawless white background.

A second version with the same decoration, also limited to 150 pieces, draws on the color scheme of the porcelain art's origins: Here, the rocaille elements of "Mystic Maison" appear on a celadon green background. This color is based on the eponymous ceramics, which were already being produced in China in the 9th century.

The third model features a collage incorporating iconic motifs from the Meissen "Decorative Worlds Crater Vase" and is produced in a limited edition of only eight pieces. Animals and flowers in vibrant rainbow colors, artfully stylized by hand on a celadon green background, combine to create a fairytale-like scene.

Precision mechanics under porcelain art
Beneath the dials of the "Senator Meissen" ticks the Glashütte Original manufacture caliber 36. It features a bidirectional automatic winding mechanism and a power reserve of up to 100 hours. Its silicon balance spring is resistant to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations, and the stop-balance function, activated by pulling out the crown, allows for precise time setting.

The glass case back reveals the meticulous finishing of the movement, which contrasts the artistic aesthetics of the porcelain dials with mechanical finesse: The Glashütte three-quarter plate features regular striped graining, the balance cock is hand-engraved, and the hand-wound chain is finished with sunburst graining.
The skeletonized rotor with the double-G symbol of Glashütte Original and 21-karat gold oscillating weight, as well as even the smallest details, are elaborately finished by hand.
