„"Seamaster Only" – a book about Omega's iconic diver's watch

Ten years after "Moonwatch Only", which is dedicated to the "Speedmaster Moonwatch", the book "Seamaster Only" has now been published by Watchprint.

The authors of "Seamaster Only" are Grégoire Rossier and Anthony Marquié, passionate collectors who have fulfilled a personal wish with this new book: to write and publish a treatise on Omega's famous diver's watch. The publisher is the online bookstore Watchprint, which specializes in watches and jewelry.

The foreword for „Seamaster Only“ is by Omega CEO Raynald Aeschlimann and Victor Vescovo, Omega ambassador and renowned deep-sea researcher.

The „Seamaster“ is one of the iconic models of the Swatch Group brand. Since its introduction in 1948, a wide variety of versions have been launched, from professional diving watches to more versatile and elegant models – all with one thing in common: remarkable water resistance.

For a long time, however, this great variety of "Seamaster" models – unlike, for example, the "Speedmaster" – caused confusion among watch enthusiasts and collectors. Furthermore, until the 1990s and 2000s, "Seamaster" watches were not grouped into a single collection.

It was precisely this diversity and the constant evolution of references and components that appealed to the authors and simultaneously presented a real challenge. Therefore, they focused their detailed analysis on the "Seamaster 300" model, which was manufactured from 1957 to 1970.

During the research phase, the authors made several exciting discoveries about the history, previously almost unknown versions for special customers, and the technical aspects of this model.

About the authors of "Seamaster Only"„

Anthony Marquié and Grégoire Rossier are the authors of "Only," "Story," and "Icons," reference works on the most legendary timepieces in watchmaking history. They are also the founders of Watchfid, a consulting firm exclusively for collectors of vintage and luxury watches.

For this project, they had the pleasure of collaborating with two experienced Seamaster collectors: Danish collector Kox, who has been intensively researching the Seamaster 300 for many years, and British antiques dealer, farmer, and pilot Ash, who has been involved with vintage Omega sports watches for over 25 years. During his research, Ash learned of a family connection to the inventor of the lever escapement.

About the „Seamaster“ from Omega

The Seamaster became world-famous, at the latest, with its appearance in every James Bond film since 1995. Since 1948, it had distinguished itself primarily through its water resistance. In 1957, Omega presented its trilogy – the Speedmaster, Railmaster, and Seamaster 300 – thus setting a milestone in the world of professional diving watches.

The Seamaster 300, worn by civilian and military divers, laid the foundation for a model series that has steadily evolved ever since. In the early 1970s, the Seamaster 600 – the legendary Ploprof – and the Seamaster 1000 pushed the boundaries of dive watches, while the 1990s marked the collection's true boom: Diver 300M (1993), Aqua Terra 150M (2002), Planet Ocean 600M (2005), and finally the Ultra Deep, water-resistant to a depth of 6,000 meters. The Seamaster also reached a wider audience thanks to the watches produced for the Olympic Games.

This new book in the "Only" series deals with the history of the "Seamaster 300" as well as its technical development. It comprises 608 pages, is available in French and English, and costs €250.
