Porsche Design celebrates founder FA Porsche with limited-edition collector's items.
A few days ago, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, known as FA, would have turned 90. The visionary, who shaped the design world with uncompromising reduction and an unerring sense of functionality, left behind a legacy that continues to set standards today.
To mark this milestone anniversary, Porsche and Porsche Design are presenting exclusive collector's items celebrating the legacy of FA Porsche; these include the 911 GT3 90 FA Porsche, limited to 90 vehicles, accompanied by an equally limited special edition of the "Chronograph 1". Together with a special weekender and the relaunch of the "Porsche Junior" sports car, they form a curated set as a tribute to design, precision, and timeless aesthetics.

In 1972, F.A. Porsche, together with his brother Hans-Peter, founded the design studio Porsche Design, which quickly established itself as a synonym for functional, timeless design.
True to his credo „If you consider the function of something, the form usually follows naturally“, the visionary behind the Porsche 911 created timeless classics such as the „Chronograph 1“ or the „P’8478“ sunglasses with interchangeable lenses, which are synonymous with the design philosophy of FA Porsche.

Curated set for FA Porsche's 90th birthday
At the heart of the exclusive objects is an anniversary edition of the Chronograph 1 – a collector's item inspired by the personal example of FA Porsche, which is owned by his descendants.

A special Super-LumiNova luminous material on the hands and indices mimics the look of aged radium or tritium coatings, creating a patina effect. The vintage character is further enhanced by the historic Porsche Design logo on the bracelet clasp and crown.

Above the bilingual day and date display at the 3 o'clock position are the letters "FAP". Normally, the Porsche Design logo is located there, but FA Porsche had his initials placed there for his personal model.

The rotor of the automatic movement takes its shape and color from the rims of the automotive collector's item. The limited edition number (XX/90) and the signature of FA Porsche are laser-engraved on the underside of the case.
Unlike the original, this case is crafted from ultra-lightweight, durable, and hypoallergenic titanium, but like the historical 1972 model, it features a black coating. As an alternative to the black-coated titanium bracelet, buyers can also wear the watch on an included leather strap. The truffle-brown calfskin leather and the chalk-beige stitching match the materials used in the sports car's interior. Thanks to the quick-release system, swapping the two straps is easy and requires no tools.

Like all Porsche Design Timepieces, the chronograph has COSC certification and is manufactured in Porsche's own watchmaking factory in Grenchen, Switzerland.
Chronograph 1 for the 90th birthday
This special timepiece is based on the „Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition,“ which Porsche Design relaunched in 2022 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. It is a meticulous replica of the original in terms of appearance and features state-of-the-art technology. The design was inspired by the dashboard of the Porsche 911. FA transferred this functional aesthetic to the timepiece – a black-coated case and metal bracelet, a matte black dial, fluorescent white hands and indices, and a striking red chronograph seconds hand – thus creating the world's first black wristwatch.

The chronograph in dialogue with the Porsche 911 GT3 90 FA
The chronograph is closely linked to the limited-edition (90 units) 911 GT3 90 FA Porsche. This collector's item, customized both inside and out, is inspired by a 911 model (G-series) driven by F.A. Porsche in the 1980s. Based on the GT3 with the Touring Package, this special edition also features numerous personal references to the creator of the 911.
The exclusive FA Green Metallic paint finish was inspired by his personal 911, while the specially developed FA Grid-Weave fabric pattern on the seat centers, glove compartment, and reversible trunk mat echoes the pattern of his favorite jackets. The legendary Fuchs wheels served as inspiration for the black Sport Classic wheels. In the chronograph, this is reflected in the rotor of the automatic movement, which incorporates the shape and color of the wheels. These material references continue seamlessly in the design of the anniversary watch, whose leather strap is identical to that of the sports car's interior.
