ID Genève inaugurates Switzerland's first solar oven and welcomes a prominent guest

ID Genève is a luxury watch manufacturer that designs and produces mechanical timepieces based on the principles of the circular economy. The Swiss brand has received B Corporation certification for its commitment to sustainability. They have now inaugurated Switzerland's first solar furnace and unveiled the "Circular S – Eclipse".

The "S" in ID Genève's "Circular S – Eclipse" stands for solar, as each piece is made from recycled stainless steel melted using concentrated sunlight. This results in a CO₂ footprint 165 times lower than that of conventional steel.

The first tests of melting with solar energy began in Mont-Louis in 2022. Today, this technology reaches a new milestone with the solar furnace operated by Panatere in La Chaux-de-Fonds. By concentrating sunlight to temperatures exceeding 1,500 °C, it melts and regenerates metals without fossil fuels, making it one of the most advanced solar-powered production facilities in Europe.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Oscar winner, environmental activist and investor of ID Genève, has already inspected the solar oven.
