Nanis: Jewelry as a personal language – Interview with Laura Bicego
For Laura Bicego, jewelry is no longer defined by status, occasion, or convention. At Nanis, it becomes a personal companion – something that moves with the wearer, seamlessly integrates into everyday life, and reflects inner emotions instead of following external codes.
In this conversation, Laura Bicego discusses the changing role of jewelry as an expression of one's personality, pieces that are lived with and worn—not reserved for special occasions—and the growing need for meaning, intimacy, and freedom. She explains how collections like DUO actively involve the wearer in the creative process and how Nanis translates a quieter, more conscious understanding of luxury into form, material, and craftsmanship. Ultimately, it's a conversation about jewelry not as an object, but as an experience: personal, evolving, and profoundly human.

In conversation with Laura Bicego
INSIGHT LUXURY: Jewelry seems to be breaking free from its classic status symbol status and its purely occasional nature. How do you see its role in everyday life – and how does this change influence your work at Nanis?
Laura Bicego: I've always believed that jewelry should be a part of life – not something you only take out of the box for special occasions. Jewelry should move with the wearer, reflect her personality, and feel intimate, vibrant, and expressive. I've always been inspired by how naturally people integrate jewelry into their everyday lives – from quiet, personal moments to festive occasions.
This attitude has defined Nanis since its founding in 1990. We design jewelry that is versatile, lightweight, and elegant: pieces that can be worn individually, combined, or reinterpreted depending on your mood. Jewelry becomes a second skin, a subtle signature – not merely adornment, but a companion that is part of your personal story and daily life.
INSIGHT LUXURY: Many consumers today are looking for meaning and emotional connection when they buy jewelry. What do you think people truly want from a piece of jewelry they intend to wear for a long time?
Laura Bicego: People are searching for resonance – for jewelry that feels personal and meaningful. A piece of jewelry will only accompany someone long-term if an emotional connection is formed: through memories, feelings, and the possibility of rediscovering one's own identity within it.
At Nanis, we design jewelry to allow for this connection. Every line, every detail, and every choice of material invites you to experience the piece individually – to combine it, reinterpret it, or simply let it speak for itself. Jewelry isn't just seen, it's lived. Like cashmere on the skin: soft, familiar, and intimate. A piece of jewelry is truly loved when it grows with the wearer, adapting to different phases of life and moods.
INSIGHT LUXURY:With DUO, the wearer becomes part of the creative process. What inspired you to embrace this level of freedom and versatility – and how does it reflect your vision of contemporary luxury?
Laura Bicego: DUO was born from the desire to connect different worlds, materials, and identities – a dialogue that reflects freedom, change, and personal expression. I wanted to create a collection that doesn't dictate an identity, but rather adapts to the wearer and invites her to shape the piece of jewelry according to her own style.
The combination of 18-karat gold, natural stones, and leather creates a confident, modern balance. DUO is more than jewelry—it's a living object that evolves with the wearer. It transcends gender boundaries and conventions, opening up endless possibilities for self-interpretation. Two elements, two characters, countless expressions—that's the spirit of DUO and my understanding of modern, fluid luxury.

INSIGHT LUXURY: Luxury today is often described as quieter, more personal, and more conscious. How does Nanis translate these values into form, material, and craftsmanship?
Laura Bicego: For me, luxury is above all about connection: the way a piece of jewelry touches the skin, reflects light, and becomes part of one's life. At Nanis, this is reflected in jewelry that moves with the wearer – light, versatile, and adaptable, designed to accompany one's own rhythm rather than dictate it.
The forms are fluid and elegant, the materials – 18-karat gold, diamonds, and natural stones – engage in a dialogue with the body, personality, and light. Every detail is handcrafted to allow for wearing, combining, and transforming. In this way, craftsmanship becomes personal luxury: jewelry that is vibrant, allows for intimacy, and makes the wearer feel truly like she owns it.
