Eberhard & Co.: Chronograph 1887 – a journey through time

The models „Chronographe 1887 Édition Limitée“ and „Chronographe 1887 Automatique“ represent the rich tradition and DNA of Eberhard & Co.

To achieve this, the creators at Eberhard & Co. embarked on an extensive journey through their own past. Based on comprehensive studies, every technical and aesthetic detail of the new timepieces was then designed to translate the characteristic features of historical chronographs into the present day.

The research focused primarily on original chronographs from the 1930s, which can be seen in the Eberhard & Co. Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds and served as a model for the „Chronographe 1887“ timepieces.

The company's coat of arms plays a special role. The emblem of the "Bouclier Pointu", originally registered in 1892 as "Poinçon de Maîtres", stands for authenticity, reliability and consistency and has been a central design element for Eberhard & Co. watches since the very beginning.

And so the „Chronographe 1887 Édition Limitée“, limited to 250 pieces, also uses the hand-wound movement EB 280 as its drive, whose bridge has the shape of the Eberhard coat of arms, which is decorated with „Côtes de Genève“ and engraved with the year 1887 and the E for Eberhard & Co.

The automatic movement EB 380 of the „Chronographe 1887 Automatique“ is equipped with a rotor decorated with „Côtes de Genève“ and „colimaçon papier“, in addition to the engraved Eberhard & Co. coat of arms in 4N gold and blue.

Both calibers are the result of a collaboration with Sellita's AMT manufacture. Both the hand-wound EB 280 and the automatic EB 380 feature a column wheel and a flyback mechanism. A noteworthy detail is the design of a special lever that allows the chronograph reset pusher to move coaxially with the crown.

Visually, the models are reminiscent of the historical chronographs from Eberhard & Co. This is evident in details such as the waterproof steel crown in the traditional style with the coaxial pusher personalized with "E", the steel case with the typical curved shape and the choice of characteristic hands for each of the two counters.

A real eye-catcher is the spiral tachymeter and telemeter scale in the middle of the dial, which is available in black, white and, in the case of the "Chronographe 1887 Automatique", also in blue.
