Mondaine expands its „Classic Collection“ with a day-date model.

This new product adds a slightly larger format to the collection, ensuring improved readability and everyday usability while remaining true to Mondaine's minimalist design philosophy.

Clear design and improved readability

Inspired by the official railway clock of the Swiss Federal Railways, the new „Classic Day Date 40 mm“ features a crisp white dial with striking black hour and minute markers and Mondaine’s iconic red seconds hand. The newly introduced large day and date windows at 3 o’clock ensure excellent legibility at a glance. A reliable Swiss-made quartz movement guarantees precision.

Sustainable materials and versatility

Mondaine uses sustainable materials not only for the 40-millimeter case made of recycled stainless steel, but also for the 20-millimeter-wide strap. This is made of grape leather, which is produced from byproducts of winemaking.

The origins of the „Classic Collection“

The „Classic Collection“ dates back to 1986, when Mondaine first launched the design of the official railway station clock of the Swiss Federal Railways as a wristwatch.

The Swiss railway clock was originally designed in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker, an engineer with the Swiss Federal Railways. His design represented a clear departure from the ornate dials of Art Nouveau towards a minimalist approach with a white background, hour and minute markers in the form of simple black rectangles, geometric hands, and finally, a striking red second hand with a red disc.

This disc, inspired by the dial used by the dispatchers who dispatched trains at stations, made it possible to read the clock to the second, even from a distance.

The clarity, simplicity, and high legibility of this design have made the Swiss Federal Railways' station clock an internationally recognized icon. Mondaine's "Classic Collection" has brought this design to the wrist and has remained true to its principles through numerous reinterpretations in various sizes, colors, and materials.
