A stage-worthy encounter with Champagne Météyer

Insight Luxury was at the in February Wine Paris 2026 – the global showcase for the world of wine and champagne. Three days of trade fair, over 6,500 exhibitors from 63 countries, more than 400 champagne brands. Anyone who thinks you can taste everything doesn't know the fair. After Hall 3, you've already lost track of time, and after Hall 5, probably even the memory of Hall 1. Three days are nowhere near enough to discover all the gems, even if, like us, you've consciously focused exclusively on the champagne houses. Ideally, you'd need a special radar or a wine whisperer to strategically guide you. But sometimes, a single stand, a single moment, a single eye-catcher is enough to know immediately: this is where you should take a closer look.

An encounter, like on a stage
That's how we came across Champagne Météyer, a winery that stood out from the crowd. Our gaze fell upon a picture in the background: a blue Citroën from the 70s, parked amidst the vineyards, and inside, a woman in a red dress, stretching her arms over the open roof towards the sky, radiating pure joie de vivre. It was somehow contagious! Suddenly, as if stepping out of the picture, this woman stood before us: Anna Météyer, the charming half of Franck Météyer for the past 22 years.

With a smile that brooked no argument, she invited us to take a seat and discover her champagne. Anna radiated an energy that was instantly captivating. With sparkling enthusiasm, deeply emotional (in the best sense) without seeming affected, she didn't just talk about her wines, she brought them to life. Every new champagne presentation became a mini-performance, every gesture an invitation to be swept away by her passion and the vividly told stories.

As she poured us the Blanc de Meunier Millésime 2019 – 100 % Meunier grapes – she said in a moving voice:
„"This bottle contains not only champagne, but also my husband's sweat, the sweat of his work. It may not sound poetic, but it's true!"“
While I was still wondering if "sweat" had ever been phrased so charmingly, we suddenly realized that it wasn't about words, but about genuine dedication. About craftsmanship. About passion. From the very first sip of champagne, you're already immersed in a story, and Anna tells it with an intensity we could hardly resist.
After a while, it became clear where Anna's presence came from: before her marriage, she was a theater actress, and it shows immediately. She has this gift for not only informing people but also touching them. Her husband, Franck, on the other hand, is the quiet constant in the background. His family has been rooted in Champagne since 1860, and today he runs the house in its fifth generation. On approximately 14 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Marne Valley, they cultivate the classic varieties Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay with respect for nature. The result is ten different cuvées, from traditional Brut to exceptional single-vineyard Millésimes. The multi-award-winning Maison is recognized as an independent vigneron.

Wine tourism, hospitality as a trademark
At home in Trélou-sur-Marne, Champagne Météyer offers the same warm welcome as at the trade fair; perhaps even a more personal one. Family hospitality is an integral part of the house's philosophy. Visitors stay with the hosts, share in their daily lives, and experience champagne where it is made. The journey through the vineyards of the Vallée de la Marne takes you in the blue Dyane, a charming Citroën classic with French vintage flair. Picnics among the vineyards, a visit to the small museum in the cellar, and guided tastings reveal the multifaceted nature of Météyer's cuvées.

And those who stay will be rewarded: On the terrace of the accommodation, a hot tub invites you to end the day in soothing peace and quiet, with an almost limitless view over the sea of vineyards that stretches to the horizon.
The cuvées – vibrant and charming – like the owners.
The champagnes themselves are like their creators: fresh, distinctive, endearing – and one could almost say they have character without being intrusive. From the Brut Réserve to the Rosé Brut and the elegant Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, or Blanc de Meunier, each bottle tells a story of patience and that quiet respect for the terroir that can only be earned with hands, heart, and undoubtedly a great deal of hard work.

Anyone who wants to travel to Champagne and experience more than just drinking champagne should visit Anna and Franck Météyer, because with them you will surely learn that a bottle can contain not only grapes, but also a good portion of joie de vivre and a touch of stage magic.
