MeisterSinger Celebrates 25 Years with the Edition Unitas 1Z

For 25 years, MeisterSinger has stood for a more leisurely approach to time and for mechanical watches. To mark this anniversary, the Münster-based brand is presenting a special edition featuring an enamel dial and a Unitas pocket watch movement—a tribute to MeisterSinger’s first enamel watch from the brand’s early years.

A tribute to the first enamel edition from 2004

The “Edition 1Z” (“Z” stands for “Zeiger,” or “hands”) was a limited-edition watch released by MeisterSinger in 2004 featuring an enamel dial. The model, limited to 222 pieces at the time, was also equipped with an enameled dial and the Unitas 6497 pocket watch caliber—including Côtes de Genève, blued screws, a Glucydur screw balance, and a swan-neck regulator.

The Unitas 6497 is one of the best-known and most durable hand-wound movements in modern watchmaking history. It was originally developed by Unitas in the 1950s as a pocket watch movement and later taken over by ETA. To this day, it serves as a robust foundation for wristwatches for a number of manufacturers. Its large diameter and distinctive bridge design offer an attractive view of the movement—one of the reasons it is still highly regarded today.

MeisterSinger now releases an enamel edition every year. The new “Edition Unitas 1Z,” limited to 25 pieces, consistently continues this tradition and, in honor of the anniversary, is once again powered by the Unitas 6497 hand-wound caliber. For the first time, the pocket watch movement is housed in a case with a diameter of 40 millimeters.

Meticulous Enamel Craftsmanship

The white enamel dial of the “Edition Unitas 1Z” is created through a process that takes several days. In a series of steps, finely ground enamel powder is applied to a copper dial and fired at around 800 degrees Celsius. Even slight temperature fluctuations or a firing time that is too long or too short can ruin days of work: the enamel can crack, warp, or break. Every successful dial is therefore the result of many years of experience and the utmost care.

Classic design inspired by historical models

The design of the “Edition Unitas 1Z” dial is deliberately inspired by classic pocket watches. Curved typography, delicate hour indices with an inner numeral circle, and additional dots marking the five-minute intervals define its appearance. The thermally blued hand with an extra-long extension underscores the watch’s historical character.

The Unitas 6497 for the MeisterSinger Anniversary

The “Edition Unitas 1Z” is powered by the Unitas 6497 pocket watch caliber. Its generous dimensions and clean architecture can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back. For this anniversary edition, the movement has been elaborately decorated with Côtes de Genève. The swan-neck regulator also contributes to the watch’s premium appearance while enabling particularly precise adjustment of the timekeeping accuracy.
