CARAT

A weight measure for Gemstones, especially for diamonds: 1 carat = 0.2 grams. The term comes from the seed of the carob tree (“keration”), which historically served as a weight reference. Carat influences the price considerably – however, not only the weight counts, but also the cut, clarity and color.
