Agate (coloured gemstone)

A banded variety of chalcedony (quartz), often with striking, concentric, or layered color layers. The color variety is created by natural or artificial coloring. Agates are frequently used as gemstones, engraving stones, or in layered stones. They are considered particularly durable.
