Silicon
« Back to Glossary Index
Silicon It is used in modern watchmaking for hairsprings, escapements, and other movement components. It is non-magnetic, temperature-resistant, and extremely lightweight—which reduces energy consumption and increases accuracy. Because it doesn't require lubrication, it increases the lifespan of the movement. Brands such as Patek Philippe, Omega, and Ulysse Nardin are specifically committed to silicon technology.
