In the cockpit – Aristo presents a pilot's watch suitable for night flying

Aristo at Inhorgenta 2026: Hall A1, Booth 105

Among the most famous watch models are undoubtedly the B-watches from World War II. The “B” stands for “Beobachtung” (observation); these standardized and particularly precise timepieces were issued to air force crews.

Collectors distinguish between model A (with a circle of hour numbers on the outer edge of the dial) and model B (with an outer minute circle and hour circle in the center). And for some, it is very important that new models are built by companies that already manufactured B-watches in the 1940s.

Aristo is also part of this small circle. In addition to other pilot watches and chronographs, the Pforzheim-based company continues to offer classic B-watches in its range. As much as authenticity is crucial here, their design can be varied—entirely in keeping with the inventors’ intentions.

Vintage 47 Luminor: Authentic size, proven drive

This is demonstrated by the “Vintage 47 Luminor.” Here, model B has been modified by filling the inner circle with luminous material. This transforms the hour circle into a separate, central dial and makes the watch even easier to read in the dark.

It is also suitable for solo and night flights. With an impressive diameter of 47 millimeters, the matte-finished stainless steel case is readable from a distance like a cockpit instrument and can be worn prominently—and authentically—above the sleeve of a flight jacket. It is equipped with sapphire crystal and a large, easy-to-grip crown. The watch is worn on a 22-millimeter leather strap with double rivets. Not entirely authentic, but comfortable, is the Sellita SW 200-1 automatic movement. (RRP €650)
