OMEGA Revamps the Speedmaster 38 mm

OMEGA is expanding the Speedmaster 38 mm collection with seven new models and bringing the line’s design closer to that of the classic Moonwatch. The changes are deliberately understated: new colors, redesigned sub-dials, minimal dial markings, and a bezel more closely modeled after the Moonwatch.

The most striking change is the introduction of round sub-dials, which replace the previous oval displays. At the same time, the bezel returns to a bolder design and once again features the “Dot Over Ninety” motif characteristic of the Moonwatch. The bracelets have also been updated: All seven models come with a five-row metal bracelet in the Moonwatch style.

Two automatic calibers

OMEGA features two self-winding Co-Axial movements in its new Speedmaster 38 mm collection.

Six models with a date display are powered by the Caliber 3330. The black version without a date display is exclusively powered by the Caliber 3332.

Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, describes the new generation as a more consistent take on the Moonwatch, without sacrificing the distinctive character of the 38-millimeter line.

Three types of steel

The new black steel version is the one most closely modeled after the classic Moonwatch. It combines a black aluminum bezel with a matte black lacquered dial. The hands and hour markers are coated with white Super-LumiNova. The bracelet features three brushed rows and two narrower polished links.

The white version, on the other hand, features a blue ceramic bezel with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The white lacquered dial is complemented by blue CVD-coated hands and hour markers; the numerals in the date window also echo this color.

In the silver-colored version, OMEGA combines a warm gray aluminum bezel with an opaline silver PVD dial. The hands and baton hour markers feature Sedna Gold PVD, while the sub-dials combine shades of brown and Sedna Gold.

Two two-tone models

One model combines stainless steel with 18-karat Moonshine Gold. It also features a green aluminum bezel and a silver-colored opaline dial. The smaller links of the bracelet are also made of Moonshine Gold.

The second two-tone version echoes the familiar “Cappuccino” aesthetic of the Speedmaster 38 mm. An ivory-colored dial is paired with brown sub-dials, an 18-karat Sedna gold bezel, and a brown aluminum ring. Here, too, the smaller bracelet links are crafted in gold.

Two models with diamond bezels

At the top of the new collection are two models with diamond-set bezels.

Fifty-two diamonds each, totaling 1.53 carats, frame either an ice-blue PVD dial or a white mother-of-pearl dial. Both versions feature rhodium-plated hands and baton hour markers coated with white Super-LumiNova.

Closer to the Moonwatch, without being a copy

With this update, OMEGA isn’t making any fundamental changes to the Speedmaster 38 mm. The line remains more compact, more colorful, and in some ways significantly more elegant than the classic Moonwatch.

What’s more interesting is how strategically OMEGA brings back specific design elements: round counters, “Dot-Over-Ninety,” a bolder bezel, and the new bracelet create a closer connection to the most iconic Speedmaster—without compromising the 38-millimeter line’s own identity.
