Seiko Speedtimer 2026: Eight New Models Blending Grand Touring and Racing
Seiko is expanding the Prospex Speedtimer collection with eight models featuring three different movement types. Two mechanical chronographs draw inspiration from the theme of grand touring, while two more compact automatic watches are inspired by classic garage and automotive instruments. In addition, there are four solar-powered chronographs in colors reminiscent of 1960s and 1970s motorsports. All new models will be available starting in September 2026.

Mechanical Chronographs for Grand Touring
The HBD001J1 and HBD002J1 make up the most technically sophisticated group. Both feature a 42-millimeter, hard-coated stainless steel case and reinterpret the 1972 Seiko “Panda” chronograph. Their three sub-dials, clearly contoured pushers, and tachymeter scale follow the instrument-style design of classic motorsport chronographs.
The HBD001J1 combines a light blue dial with dark gray sub-dials and a multi-row stainless steel bracelet. On the HBD002J1, the dial and sub-dials are coordinated in silver-gray; light blue hands add accents. It is worn on a gray leather strap.
Inside, the watch is powered by the automatic 8R48 chronograph caliber, featuring a column wheel, vertical clutch, and bidirectional winding via Seiko’s “Magic Lever.” It measures elapsed time up to twelve hours in one-eighth-second increments and offers more than 45 hours of power reserve. The cases are 14.6 millimeters thick, feature double-domed sapphire crystal, and are water-resistant to 10 bar. Prices are 2,780 euros for the HBD001J1 and 2,680 euros for the HBD002J1.
Two automatic models with a countdown ring
The three-hand models HBC003J1 and HBC004J1 translate the motorsports theme into a more everyday-friendly design. Their 39.5-millimeter cases are significantly more compact. Instead of a chronograph function, they feature an internal rotating bezel that can be used as a countdown timer. A triangular marker coated with LumiBrite makes it easier to tell time in the dark.
The HBC003J1 combines a light blue dial with a stainless steel bracelet. The HBC004J1 features a blue-gray dial and a black leather strap with an embossed finish. Both are powered by the 6R55 automatic movement, which offers more than 72 hours of power reserve. With a thickness of 12 millimeters, sapphire crystal, and 20 bar water resistance, they are the most robust and, at the same time, the most compact models in the new series. The HBC003J1 costs 990 euros, and the HBC004J1 costs 970 euros.
Four Solar chronographs in historic racing colors
With these four solar-powered chronographs, Seiko puts the color palette of classic race cars front and center. “Grand Prix White” refers to the white HBJ001P1, “Champagne Fight Gold” to the gold-colored HBJ002P1, “Racing Green” for the green HBJ003P1, and “Speed Yellow” for the yellow HBJ004P1. Contrasting sub-dials and two-tone aluminum bezels with a tachymeter scale maintain the connection to the familiar Speedtimer design.
The V192 solar caliber measures intervals of up to 60 minutes in increments of one-fifth of a second and also features split-time, 24-hour, and remaining power indicators. Once fully charged, it runs for up to six months. The 41.4-millimeter stainless steel cases are 13 millimeters thick, water-resistant to 10 bar, and feature domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The HBJ002P1 also features a gold plating. All four models are priced at 790 euros each.
Three Approaches to the Speedtimer Concept
With these eight new models, Seiko is expanding the Speedtimer line with more than just new colors. The collection now ranges from classic mechanical chronographs to compact automatic sports watches and more affordable solar-powered chronographs. What they all have in common is excellent readability, technical details inspired by motorsports, and a nod to Seiko’s own chronograph history, which reached an important milestone in 1969 with the automatic Caliber 6139.
