TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph: 50th Anniversary Edition

TAG Heuer is celebrating 50 years of the Monza with a new flyback chronograph. Limited to 500 numbered pieces, this anniversary edition combines the modern Monza’s cushion-shaped case with forged carbon, red and blue racing accents, and the COSC-certified in-house caliber TH20-12.

A Monza for the 50th Birthday

The first Heuer Monza was introduced in 1976. Jack Heuer had it developed to celebrate Niki Lauda’s Formula 1 world championship title for Ferrari. The black case and red accents made the chronograph a distinctly sporty addition to the Heuer lineup at the time. The new model, reference CR5092.FC8372, draws on these contrasts without being a literal replica of the historic model.

The 42-millimeter case and the fixed bezel are made of forged carbon. Its marbled texture varies slightly from watch to watch. The case back is made of Grade 5 titanium and features a black PVD coating. The case is 15.22 millimeters thick, and the length across the lugs is 50.85 millimeters.

Tachymeter and pulsometer on a single scale

Beneath the domed sapphire crystal lies a skeletonized black dial. A combined tachymeter and pulsometer scale runs along the flange. Two blue counters track the chronograph minutes and the running seconds; red accents highlight, among other things, the central chronograph seconds hand and the hour markers. White lacquered hands and Super-LumiNova-coated hour markers provide contrast.

TH20-12 caliber with flyback function

The automatic in-house caliber TH20-12 allows the chronograph to be reset to zero and restarted with a single press of the pusher. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is COSC-certified as a chronometer, and offers a power reserve of 80 hours.

The black, perforated leather strap fastens with a DLC-coated titanium folding clasp. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters. TAG Heuer lists a price of 13,350 euros for Germany. This information has been verified against the official product page.
