For just over a year, Dr. Gunnar Binder has been CEO of the Christ Group, which has been part of the Italian Morellato Group since February 2023. He spoke with INSIGHT LUXURY about the challenges ahead.

INSIGHT LUXURY: Precious metal or non-precious metal – which jewelry category is currently ahead at CHRIST?
Dr Gunnar Binder: CHRIST is – and remains – a high-quality jeweler; our customers trust us and our expertise. Our core competencies in precious metals: CHRIST is strong in diamonds, gold, and silver. With these precious metals, we offer our customers a diverse range in every price range.

INSIGHT LUXURY: How is CHRIST, or rather Morellato as a producer, reacting to the high gold price? Is there a way to absorb price increases in the final product, thus not passing them on entirely to customers?

GB: That will be very difficult. However, we always try to keep our increases within affordable limits. It will be an interesting topic to see how the gold price will develop in 2025 given the political realities. At the same time, we are optimizing our production efficiency.
INSIGHT LUXURY: Women's and men's watches: What's the distribution here? Or has Christ neglected this categorization these days?

GB: CHRIST is always focused on the needs of its customers – both in-store and online.
The classic division into women's and men's watches still exists, but the demand for unisex models is growing significantly.
Traditionally, Christ's sales share of men's watches is significantly higher than in the women's segment.
With the Karl Lagerfeld watches (and jewelry), we offer great new designs for women, just like with Daniel Wellington.
But one thing is also certain: Unisex is coming as a trend model, especially models with diameters of 38 mm to 40 mm are particularly in demand, as they are worn by both women and men.
INSIGHT LUXURY: Is the pre-owned watch business a topic for Christ?
GB: The market for pre-owned watches is growing rapidly, especially in the luxury segment. However, CHRIST's current focus is on new watch models and expanding our high-quality range.
