Francesca Amfitheatrof began her role as jewellery designer for Louis Vuitton in 2018. After seven years of creative work, the luxury label and the designer have now parted ways again. Louis Vuitton confirmed this in an official statement on Thursday. The company explained:
After a successful seven-year collaboration to create jewellery and high jewellery collections, Louis Vuitton and Francesca Amfitheatrof have amicably parted ways. With her remarkable talent and boundless creativity, Amfitheatrof has left a lasting mark on Louis Vuitton's jewellery heritage.
Strong career in fashion and design
Amfitheatrof was born in Japan in 1968, but grew up in New York, Rome and finally London. In 1995, she began working as a consultant for various renowned fashion labels, including Balenciaga, Chanel, Fendi and Marni. For Chanel, Amfitheatroff designed the buckles for handbags, shoes and belts as well as a silver jewellery line.
In 2013, she became Head of Design at Tiffany's - the first time in the company's history that this role has gone to a woman. Under Amfitheatrof's leadership, collections such as "Tiffany T", "Victoria Bows & Infinity", "Return to Love" and "Sweet Nothings" were created.
It was only in November 2024 that Francesca Amfitheatrof was honoured with the title "Designer of the Year" at the UK Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards. It was the very first time the award had gone to a designer from the jewellery industry.
On her departure from Louis Vuitton, Francesca Amfitheatrof:
I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to design the jewellery and high jewellery collections for Louis Vuitton. I am so proud of these collections and the legacy I am leaving behind as I move on to new exciting projects that I will be announcing soon.
In the meantime, Louis Vuitton intends to continue the design process in-house.
