Crisis-proof, positive buzz in the jewellery industry
Jewellery from Germany is doing well. According to the latest statistics from the German Jewellery, Watches, Silverware and Allied Industries Association (BVSU), which are compiled by the Federal Statistical Office, the export volume for jewellery in April was 574 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of 3.7 percent compared to the previous month of March, when exports amounted to 553 million euros.
Compared to the previous year, the increase in exports is even more pronounced. In April 2024, the export volume was EUR 415 million - the new figures from this year therefore correspond to a whopping increase of 27.7 per cent.
It seems that the situation in the world can do little to harm the German jewellery industry.
With a volume of 598 million euros, the import figures for jewellery are up 4.1 percent, with jewellery worth 573 million euros imported. Compared to the previous year 2024, this corresponds to an increase of a whopping 36.4 per cent. The import volume in April 2024 was 380 million euros.
In the watch sector, however, things look a little different...

Stagnation in the watch industry
If you look at the statistics for imports and exports of watches and watch parts, it looks more like the industry is treading water.
The export volume for watches and watch parts was 155 million euros in April, which corresponds to a decrease of 1.0 per cent compared to the previous month of March - although a slight year-on-year increase of 3.5 per cent can still be seen. In April 2024, the export volume was 149 million euros.
Germany is slightly stronger in imports of watches and watch parts. With a volume of 214 million euros, the increase is 8.7 per cent compared to the previous month. Over the year as a whole, imports thus remain comparatively stable. There was a decrease of 0.1 per cent compared to April 2024.
