"Seiko 5 SRPL91 & SRPL93" - Seiko reissues the "Gene Kranz"

The Seiko model "6119-8460" from the late 1960s is also known among watch enthusiasts as the "Gene Kranz." The reason: The NASA engineer, who served as flight director in the Mission Control Center during the first moon landing, wore this watch in 1970 while bringing the Apollo 13 crew safely back to Earth in a legendary rescue mission.

Kranz was famous for his statement, "Giving up is not an option!" For Seiko, abandoning the successful and popular "Seiko 5" line is also not an option. With its reliability, durability, and performance, the series has captivated lovers of sporty, mechanical watches since 1968.

“Seiko 5” – the name says it all

Incidentally, the "Seiko 5" line got its name like this: One number, five promises. The number "5" refers to five key features that distinguish the model series: an automatic movement, a day-date display at the 3 o'clock position, water resistance, a crown at the 4 o'clock position, and a case and bracelet designed for durability.

Seiko has now reissued the "Gene Kranz," remaining true to the original design and functionality in every detail. This includes the bidirectional rotating diver-style bezel and the white and black dial with the applied "5" logo at the 12 o'clock position. The signature date display with its inverted color scheme—day of the week in white, date in black—has also been faithfully retained.

Above all, the striking bezel and the double-domed box-shaped Hardlex crystal have been faithfully reproduced and, together with the cushion-shaped stainless steel case (38.2 × 44.7 mm), give the watch its authentic vintage look.

At the same time, modern upgrades such as the reliable automatic caliber 4R36 with a 41-hour power reserve, water resistance up to 10 bar, Lumibrite on the hands, indices and bezel, and a solid stainless steel bracelet ensure contemporary everyday suitability.
