Geneva Watch Days 2025 Preview: Piaget’s Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon – the art of flatness with gold and green

The “Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon” has a total height of just two millimeters and was first presented last year at Watches & Wonders on what was then the flattest wristwatch with a flying tourbillon.

While it has since been overtaken by Bulgari's "Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon," the Piaget timepiece remains a masterpiece of miniaturization. And it's now available in a new color.

Piaget and the pursuit of flatness

The starting point for Piaget's efforts to build ever thinner wristwatches was the hand-wound caliber 9P in 1957. With a height of two millimeters, it set new standards and powered exclusively precious metal watches.

At two millimeters high, the hand-wound movement was the thinnest mechanical movement in the world when it was introduced in 1957 and was used exclusively in precious metal watches.

Further movements of superlative flatness followed, until Piaget gave this venture its own name in 2018: “Altiplano Ultimate Concept”.

The current flagship model is the "Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon," launched to mark Piaget's 150th anniversary in 2024. With a diameter of 41.5 millimeters, a case made of blue PVD-coated cobalt alloy, and a thickness of just two millimeters, it is not only extremely slim and lightweight, but also offers noticeable wearing comfort.

This model is now available in the new gold/khaki green color scheme, which combines the familiar cobalt alloy case. Here, too, Piaget relies on its proven design, which no longer has a clear separation between the case, movement, and dial. The 970P-UC offers a 40-hour power reserve.
