A first from Mondaine: the first "essence" watch with solar function
Mondaine continues its commitment to sustainability: the Swiss brand is launching two new solar models as part of the "essence" collection. The iconic and minimalist timepieces, which are powered by light, demonstrate Mondaine's endeavour to combine sustainability and innovation and to constantly improve through new materials.
Time for innovation and sustainability
The two new "essence solar" watches feature a Swiss Ronda 215 solar movement, which provides reliable timekeeping at all times and is powered entirely by light. They combine the iconic design of the Swiss railway station clock with modern technologies and sustainable materials. The characteristic dial and the arrangement of the hands correspond to the original design of the watches, which have been found in around 3,000 Swiss SBB railway stations since 1944 and for which Mondaine has held a worldwide exclusive licence since 1986.

The minimalist, clear black and white dial ensures excellent legibility and optimum visual orientation. The case and bracelet of these Swiss Made "essence solar" watch models are made predominantly from renewable raw materials and are produced in the Mondaine factory using solar power. The "essence" watches are therefore probably among the most sustainable watches in the world.
The 41 mm case is made of a castor oil composite, an innovative material composition of 40 percent castor oil, 30 percent glass fibre, 2 percent colour pigments and only 28 percent fossil oil for stability and durability. The strap is made from recycled PET textile and has a natural cork lining that combines durability and comfort. The strap has a quick-release system for effortless replacement and a longer product life. The conscious decision to use sustainable materials and the solar movement reflect Mondaine's philosophy and commitment to thoughtful sustainability.

A company with a mission
These special materials and properties are part of the company's mission to respect future generations and minimise its ecological footprint. Mondaine watches are manufactured in the company's own state-of-the-art Swiss factory, whose photovoltaic system covers up to 80 per cent of its energy requirements. The remaining 20 per cent is supplied by a local hydroelectric power plant. Mondaine as a group with all its products has been completely CO₂-neutral since 2020 by eliminating unavoidable CO₂ emissions in accordance with Scope 1, 2 and 3 of the GHG Protocol, making it one of the most sustainable watch companies in the world.

Time, fuelled by light
Solar movements are powered by any light source, whether sunlight or artificial light. The light that passes through the specially developed transparent dial reaches the solar cells underneath and converts it into electrical energy. This is stored in a rechargeable battery that powers the Swiss movement. Just two minutes of light are enough to restart a fully discharged movement, which then runs for a whole day. Once fully charged, the watch will continue to run for around eight months, even in complete darkness. With no need for regular battery changes, the watch supports a more sustainable lifestyle, is easy on the wallet and the environment, while maintaining the impeccable, world-renowned Swiss precision.

A modern statement
The "essence solar" is available in two colour variants: with a white case and ivory-coloured strap and in a very classic, minimalist version in black. The "essence solar" watch models are a modern statement of Swiss innovation and responsibility. They are manufactured in Mondaine's Swiss factory in Biberist and run on green energy. They prove that sustainability can be iconic, reliable, beautiful and also very affordable. Good for our planet, good for future generations.
Both watch models cost 299 euros each and are available immediately.
