7 new Speedmasters: Omega presents the dark side of the moon in grey and black

Twelve years after the debut of the "Dark Side of the Moon" watches and one year after the Master Chronometer certification of the "Apollo 8" version, Omega is now presenting seven more variants.

The new "Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon" and "Grey Side of the Moon" models from Omega are characterised by slimmer case profiles with the same 44.25-millimetre diameter, co-axial calibres and ceramic components.

Omega and the moon

In 1968, Apollo 8 made history: it was the first manned mission to orbit the moon. Shortly before commander Jim Lovell lost radio contact with Earth with the words "See you on the other side", every astronaut wore a Speedmaster from Omega. The Swatch Group brand has been commemorating this moment for twelve years with its "Dark Side of the Moon" watches.

"The 'Dark Side of the Moon' collection epitomises Omega's pioneering spirit that took us to the moon," explains Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of the brand. "With the new models, we are continuing this extraordinary legacy and bringing innovations that will redefine chronographs for generations to come."

7 new models and innovative ceramic technology

For the four new dials, Omega has used a new process for the production of bevelled, polished ceramic parts, which creates an exciting depth effect. Added to this is the improved Liquidmetal technology on bezels and crowns, which increases resistance and scratch resistance.

The new models include both completely new variants and new editions of classics that have been given greater precision and optimised proportions. They can be worn either on newly designed nylon straps with a rubber inner side for improved comfort or on rubber straps with a moon surface structure.

The highlights include a new, significantly slimmer model with manual winding, the Black Edition Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9908.

It stands out with its red central chronograph hand and a matt dial with grey and red details.

The revised version of the original "Dark Side of the Moon" is also presented in a slimmer case with Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9900, Liquidmetal tachymeter scale and refined two-layer ceramic dial structure with laser-brushed finish.

Another model is completely black and houses the Black Edition Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, with dark movement components, an enamel tachymeter scale and a laser-sandblasted ceramic dial with diamond-polished indices and Superluminova, making it particularly striking.

One model honours the Apollo 8 crew, who were the first humans to see the far side of the moon. Inspired by Jim Lovell's statement that "the moon is essentially grey", the watch features a laser-engraved lunar surface, visible through the movement.

The front and back of the moon can be experienced through the skeletonised dial and the case back - a unique lunar landscape, powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869.
