Seiko 5 Sports x HUF: Japanese watch design meets cool street culture
Seiko heralds the next round of collaboration with skateboard and lifestyle brand HUF – with the limited edition “Seiko 5 Sports Field HUF” in an intense shade of green.
The third collaboration between Seiko and HUF once again combines Californian skate culture with Japanese watchmaking expertise. The result is the striking, eye-catching “Seiko 5 Sports Field HUF,” limited to 7,000 pieces worldwide.
HUF founder Keith Hufnagel grew up in New York in the 1980s. In addition to skateboarding, he was influenced early on by cultural influences such as hip-hop, punk, graffiti, and streetwear. In 1992, he became a professional skateboarder and gathered further impressions on his travels around the world, which later influenced him when he founded his label HUF.
The Seiko 5 Sports Field HUF references Seiko’s Time Sonar from the 1970s. It was one of the first series watches with a semi-transparent dial that allowed a view of the inner workings – a futuristic design at the time. The transparent dial also makes the day-date disc clearly visible, including the English and Japanese characters for the days of the week.
However, unlike its source of inspiration, the dial of the Seiko 5 Sports Field HUF appears in HUF green, complemented by a logo at six o’clock. The glass case back also features HUF’s signature San Francisco pattern in bright light green.
The automatic caliber 4R36 with a 41-hour power reserve, second stop, and calendar function (date and day of the week) operates in a 39.5-millimeter stainless steel case that is water-resistant to 10 bar.
The Seiko 5 Sports Field HUF comes in a specially designed, limited-edition box. As a special extra, a HUF-branded watch cleaning cloth is included. (RRP: €410)
