Urwerk UR-150 Golden Scorpion: Satellite Mechanism in Yellow Gold
With the UR-150 Golden Scorpion, Urwerk is changing the character of its latest satellite watch. Yellow gold replaces the cool, technical look of the previous steel and titanium versions, while the unusual time display remains unchanged: three hour satellites and a retrograde minute hand move along a 240-degree arc.

The Scorpion’s Leap
For one hour, a flying carousel with three hour satellites follows a path determined by a cam disc. When the minute hand reaches 60, it jumps back 240 degrees to the beginning of the scale. At the same time, the satellite system rotates 270 degrees, bringing the next hour into position.
To achieve this rapid return, Urwerk developed its own spring as well as a system consisting of a cam and a rack. The mechanism is not merely a technical feature; it also defines the watch’s appearance: The display builds tension over 60 minutes and releases it in a single jump.

Yellow Gold Instead of Technical Armor
In the Golden Scorpion, futuristic architecture meets one of watchmaking’s most traditional case materials. The yellow gold does not soften the UR-150’s instrumental appearance, but rather creates a deliberately strong material contrast with it. As a result, the curved surfaces and sharp edges of the case give it the appearance of a sculpture.
UR-50.01 Automatic Caliber
Inside, the watch is powered by the UR-50.01 automatic caliber with 38 jewels. It beats at a frequency of four hertz and provides a 43-hour power reserve. The case of the UR-150 measures 42.49 × 52.31 millimeters and is 14.79 millimeters thick. It is water-resistant to 50 meters.

With the Golden Scorpion, Urwerk remains true to its principle of openly showcasing mechanics as a movement in space. What’s new, above all, is the perception: Crafted in yellow gold, the UR-150 appears less like a technical device and more like a precious mechanical object.
