G-SHOCK GMC-2500 and GAC-2500: The Square Goes Analog

The angular design of the first G-SHOCK meets a fully analog time display: Casio is introducing two new model series, the GMC-2500 and GAC-2500. Their most striking new feature is the “Multi-Mission Date” display at the 3 o’clock position.

The original version from 1983 as a starting point

The G-SHOCK story began in 1983 with the DW-5000C. Its compact, nearly square case continues to define the brand to this day. The GMC-2500 and GAC-2500 draw on this design, but feature smoother transitions and a new dial layout. Where the original model had a digital display, these models now feature central hands and a separate function display.

The watch’s distinctive look comes from its case. The dial itself offers a fresh take on the familiar design: hour markers, hands, and the fan-shaped windows on the right come together to form a distinctly graphic unit. In both collections, the analog design is combined with G-SHOCK’s signature shock-resistant construction and water resistance up to 20 bar.

A date with multiple tasks

The “Multi-Mission Date” display consists of three fan-shaped fields at the 3 o’clock position. It shows the date during everyday use and displays the elapsed minutes when the stopwatch is in use. These windows are also used when setting the watch. The fully automatic calendar is set by year, month, and day and accounts for the varying lengths of the months.

Features include a stopwatch with one-second measurement, LED illumination, and a function that allows the hands to be moved out of the way of the function display. In addition, the second hand can be manually stopped and restarted. This sleep mode is designed to conserve energy when the running seconds display is not needed.

Metal or colored synthetic resin

The GMC-2500 features a metal bezel and a brass dial. Depending on the model, different finishes and color combinations are available. The GMC-2500D comes with a metal bracelet; other versions combine metal components with a synthetic resin strap. This allows the basic design to remain recognizable, while the overall look shifts between technical, sporty, and jewelry-inspired styles.

With the GAC-2500, on the other hand, synthetic resin takes center stage. The color options include black, white, olive green, and yellow. With this, Casio applies the same display concept to designs with varying degrees of distinctiveness. What both model series have in common is an attempt to reinterpret the familiar G-SHOCK silhouette through an analog control and readout logic.
