Gellner Akoya Nova: Pearls in natural white and gray
With a pearl, white is rarely just white, and gray is rarely just gray. Their appeal stems from the interplay of body color, luster, and those subtle overtones that only become visible in the light. This is precisely what Gellner focuses on with Akoya Nova: the cultured pearls come in Natural White and Natural Gray, each with a cool, bluish sheen.
The color comes from the pearl
According to the brand, the colors are achieved without any subsequent color treatment. The terms “Natural White” and “Natural Gray” thus describe the natural color effect of cultured pearls. This also means that the shades are not completely uniform: a pearl reacts to its surroundings and to the angle of the light. These subtle shifts in color give a necklace or bracelet its vibrancy.

For the pearls, Gellner collaborates with Japanese pearl farmer George Kakuda. The company claims exclusive European rights to this collaboration. The range of colors is particularly interesting for design purposes: from bright white to a gray with blue undertones, a variety of moods can be created without compromising the calm, understated effect of the Akoya pearl.
Salt’n Pepper: Cool Tones, Sharp Contrasts
In the Salt’n Pepper collection, Gellner combines natural gray pearls with 950 platinum and diamonds, among other materials. The light-colored precious metal extends the cool color palette, while the sporadic flashes of light from the diamonds complement the softer pearlescent sheen with a different kind of brilliance. A necklace and a bracelet demonstrate how these elements can be combined to create a cohesive jewelry ensemble.

The difference between a diamond and a pearl is crucial from a design perspective: The faceted stone reflects light in sharp glints, while the surface of the pearl appears softer and more diffuse. Rather than letting the two effects compete with each other, Gellner arranges them within a shared color palette.
Castaway: White Gets a Warm Frame
Castaway evokes a different mood. Here, natural white pearls are paired with rose gold and diamonds. The warmer shade of gold accentuates the white and makes its blue undertones appear all the more delicate. The collection thus translates the new selection of pearls into jewelry whose impact stems from just a few carefully chosen materials.
Akoya Nova is, therefore, above all a story about selection and nuance. The key lies in how the cultured pearls are coordinated with one another and integrated into existing jewelry collections. To achieve this, Gellner employs two distinct material palettes: the cool interplay of gray and platinum, and the warmer contrast of white and rose gold.
