Cameos are among the oldest forms of narrative jewelry. Figures and ornaments are carved as raised reliefs from multi-layered material. Brigitte Adolph draws on this technique for her current cameo lines, but instead of setting them in traditionally heavy mountings, she combines them with a filigree gold structure.

Relief Art from Southern Italy

The cameos are engraved from shell material by experienced artisans in southern Italy. Since both the raw material and the craftsmanship vary, no two reliefs are exactly alike. This gives the jewelry a unique character, even though they are not custom-made pieces that have been personalized afterward.
