Roger Dubuis Excalibur Hawthorn: Hawthorn Made of Mother-of-Pearl and Sapphires
The Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn is the third portrait of the legendary Viviane in the Roger Dubuis collection. This time, the Geneva-based manufacturer tells the story of a plant: hawthorn blossoms crafted from white mother-of-pearl and red sapphires representing the fruit stand out against a background of 147 diamonds.
The hawthorn is a reference to Brocéliande, the forest of the Arthurian legend, where Roger Dubuis sets the story of Viviane. On the dial, a blossom and a ripe fruit appear side by side. The white mother-of-pearl and the deep-red sapphires thus depict two stages of the same plant.
A dial with its own depth

Seven intricately carved mother-of-pearl flowers each feature a diamond at their center. Thirteen pear-shaped sapphires add touches of red. The small seconds sub-dial also echoes this motif, featuring its own mother-of-pearl flower. The rose gold case measures 36 millimeters. An alligator leather strap echoes the red of the fruit.
Beneath the flowers lies a pavé of 147 diamonds set in rose gold. The three-dimensional petals stand out against this backdrop; at the small seconds sub-dial, the flower itself becomes a moving part of the display. A two-part dial rim with contrasting finishes frames the relief and features applied hour markers.

The jewelry-inspired design continues onto the case. A total of 95 diamonds, weighing just under 1.3 carats, are set on the fluted bezel, the lugs, and a band that rises along the side toward the crown. Polished edges meet satin-finished surfaces and trace the shape even where no stones are set.
Automatic movement under sapphire crystal
Through the sapphire crystal case back, the RD830 caliber with its skeletonized 22-karat gold rotor is visible. The automatic movement displays hours, minutes, and a small seconds hand and offers a 48-hour power reserve. The price for the model with reference number RDDBEX1196 is 91,000 euros.

On the back, the Geneva stripes and the openworked gold rotor take center stage. The movement, consisting of 183 components, is developed and assembled at the Geneva manufacture. Learn more about the Excalibur Hawthorn at Roger Dubuis.
