AP x Ambush: Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon
Yoon Ahn and Verbal are a creative duo based in Tokyo. Their work lies at the intersection of fashion, music, and contemporary culture. While Yoon Ahn works as a designer and creative director, Verbal has made a name for himself as a music producer and cultural entrepreneur. Together, they founded the design studio Ambush, which began with experimental jewelry and quickly evolved into an international high-fashion brand. In collaboration with the artist duo, Audemars Piguet created the “Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon,” limited to 150 pieces, crafted from titanium with a case diameter of 38.5 millimeters.
“Creativity is always in motion. You keep evolving, reinventing yourself, and moving forward—which is why the design of this limited edition had to reflect that energy. For me, it was about balance and creating something truly universal that everyone can connect with,” says Yoon Ahn, explaining the creative approach behind the collaboration.
The result: On the dial side, the upper cage of the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock has been red anodized aluminum. This striking accent symbolizes energy in constant motion. The shimmering black aventurine dial, framed by mirror-polished, silver-gray-tinted bevels, simultaneously reveals the heart of the movement and makes visible the flow of energy that drives this creation. The architectural construction underscores the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.
For the first time, a model of this size is equipped with a quick-change system for watchbands. The package includes a black and a red rubber strap featuring a “micro-mosaic” pattern.
“Red has always been a powerful color to us, while the tourbillon cage forms the heart of the watch—the force that keeps everything in motion. Red evokes the earth’s core: the origin, the source of energy, and ultimately the beginning of our way of measuring time,” explains Verbal.
Developed specifically for this limited edition, the Caliber 2982 builds on the technical advancements of the hand-wound Caliber 2964 with a flying tourbillon. The new version was designed so that the balance wheel remains fully visible. It offers a 72-hour power reserve, retains the high-tech architecture of its predecessor, and at the same time supports the watch’s design philosophy: to reduce distractions and return to the essentials. The “Royal Oak Concept” was unveiled in 2002 to mark the 30th anniversary of the “Royal Oak” and has since served as a platform for the manufacture to conduct technical and design experiments.
Pink, Turquoise, Yellow, and Orange: Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph
Audemars Piguet presents three new 42-millimeter models of the “Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Automatic” in summery colors. Crafted from robust materials, these timepieces embody the boldness of the “Offshore,” which earned the nickname “The Beast” upon its launch in 1993 due to its oversized proportions and visible rubber gasket.
The “Méga Tapisserie” dials are brought to life with accents of pink, turquoise, yellow, and orange. Inspired by the instrument panels of racing boats, these hues are featured on the redesigned tachymeter scale as well as on the sub-dials at 9 and 12 o’clock.
The first model, made of stainless steel, combines a black dial with pink accents. The second version, made of titanium, features yellow and turquoise accents against a dark gray dial. In the third model, also crafted from stainless steel, orange details provide color accents within a monochromatic aesthetic in silver tones.
All three models come with a replaceable calfskin strap featuring a textured finish, with a color scheme that matches the respective watch.
The models are powered by the Caliber 4404, featuring a flyback chronograph and a 70-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. (MSRP: 38,100 euros)
