Luminox P-38 Lightning 9520: Black & Clear
Luminox has redesigned the P-38 Lightning, giving the aviation-inspired series a black case made of IP-coated stainless steel. The three new models—Black Stealth, Sandstorm, and Open Skies Blue—combine a darker look with a more clearly structured dial and a GMT display for a second time zone.
Black stainless steel in three versions
The 42-millimeter case is made of 316L stainless steel and, for the first time in the P-38 line, features a black IP coating. The uniform case serves as the backdrop for three different dial variations: black for the Black Stealth, a sandy shade for the Sandstorm, and blue for the Open Skies Blue.

A shortened minute scale is designed to make the display calmer and easier to read at a glance. The triangle with two dots at the 12 o’clock position—typical of classic pilot’s watches—further aids in orientation. The hour markers and hands are equipped with Luminox Light Technology. The self-luminous elements require neither an external light source to recharge nor the press of a button, and, according to the manufacturer, are designed to remain visible for up to 25 years.

GMT function and quartz movement
Inside, the watch is powered by the Swiss quartz movement Ronda 515.24H. In addition to hours, minutes, and seconds, it displays a second time zone using a 24-hour scale on the inner dial ring. The stated battery life is 50 months.
An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial. The screw-down crown and screw-down stainless steel case back ensure water resistance up to 100 meters. The case back features engravings of the P-38 Lightning and the Lockheed Martin logo. Depending on the model, Luminox pairs the watch with a black or brown leather strap.

Inspired by the Lockheed P-38 Lightning
The collection is named after the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, an American fighter plane from World War II. Its unusual design, featuring two tail booms, made it easily recognizable and earned it the nickname “Fork-Tailed Devil.” Luminox draws on this history as part of its collaboration with Lockheed Martin.
The new generation retains the basic functional concept of the previous P-38 models, but shifts the design toward a darker, more technical aesthetic. What sets it apart is not so much the new features as the combination of black steel, a revised scale, and the three distinctly different color variants.
